Re: How do you identify an unknown device in device manager?

Hi,

Sometimes it is really hard to identifying. With Vista is that problem that
often that are problems with drivers. I've met that after Vista installation
I had one unknown device named Mass Storage device. When I installed all
drivers to motherboard (some of them was not dedicated for Vista), device
turned out that it's a sound card ;-)

Get the PCI Vendor number and PCI Device numbers from Device Manager and use
the above web site to track them down.

Quick guess--a component of your sound card that doesn't have drivers for
vista yet. My creative card has no vista driver for the gameport and is
Unknown pci device.

I had the unknown device Quicklaunch buttons - funny thing is, there are no
buttons on my Compaq laptop. But installing a driver for them cleared the
error. Go figger!
