Join Vista Machine to Domain - Need info from local profile

I have a user who has been using his Vista Business machine with a local
profile. We have now joined his pc to our domain and he has a new user
profile. I need to move the information from his local profile johndoe to his
domain profile johndoe.ourdomain.

I need very specific instructions on how to do this. The USMT will not work
and neither will the Easy Transfer Tool. Both of those tools are to move
profiles from one pc to another. This information is on one pc.

Hi,

Control Panel | System | Advanced settings | Advanced system settings |
Settings... (under profiles) | Copy.

He doesn't have enough disk space to copy the profile. I need to move it.

Re: Join Vista Machine to Domain - Need info from local profile

WARNING - incorrectly editing your registry could make your system
unbootable (however, in this regedit, worst I have seen it it creating a new
default profile!)

First, you must log on as someone OTHER than the user you are performing
this task for - reason is, Windows saves settings when you log off, and if
you do this as the user you are changing, all your current settings (which
you DON'T want) will overwrite the ones you DO want.

regedit\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Profile List

Find the entry that has the new profile path (in the ProfileImagePath
string value), and change to the original profile path

Use an external USB drive to move the data. Easy Transfer will work fine
moving the data even on the same PC.
