Power Icon disappears from System tray taskbar and start menu

The battery power icon seems to disappear at times from the system
tray/taskbar. I clicked on the taskbar and start menu properties and tabbed
"Notification area". The system icons - clock, volume were checked (I don't
check network). The power line is grayed out and is not checked. How can I
get the power icon back?

I have vista premium installed on my new Toshiba Satellite notebook.

Thanks. Norm.

Hi Norm,

I don't have a solution for this but I can confirm that I am
experiencing the same problem.
Surely this must be something to do with a recent Vista update as it
appears to have happened to many people at the same time.

Re: Power Icon disappears from System tray taskbar and start menu

Thanks Harry - glad to know that I am not alone. We'll keep watching this
board and hopefully someone will have an answer. As you say, it could be due
to recent updates.

CHeers, Norm.

Re: Power Icon disappears from System tray taskbar and start menu

Harry - I found that the realtek audio driver was causing a problem and I
backed out of the it - from the device manager. Got the icons back and the
sound is still working fine.

There is obviously something wrong within vista that this should happen. Now
I installed my Canon digital camera software to upload pictures and the icons
have once again gone - grayed out as well in the notification area. Canon was
absolutely no help. I'm simply going to uninstall the software and use
another computer for my pictures.
