I need an answer . . .

This is on a brand new HP Pavillion computer which came with XP installed
and I got a free upgrade to Vista - Nothing but problems since!

I have an ongoing problem with my Vista Home Premium. IE7 shuts down
randomly. I have removed the suggested "conflicting" programs to no avail .
.. . I am NOT a programmer, nor am I a "computer whiz" . . . A three hour 47
step "workaround" just isn't in my capability range. Can someone at the
Microsoft Guru Works PLEASE invent a downloadable "fix" for thise problem?

I have an ongoing problem with my Vista Home Premium. I use Quicken 2007
Home Deluxe to manage my personal finances - I have already done EVERYTHING
that the Intuit Quicken Guru Works have told me to do, including spending a
CONSIDERABLE amount of time on the land line talking me through complicated
and lengthy procedures all to no avail (the final suggestion is what I am
now doing) - Vista is seemingly now denying internet acess through Quicken
to my financial institution and also denying Quicken the ability to back up
my files to my flash drive. Again . . . I am NOT a programmer, nor am I a
"computer whiz" . . . A three hour 47 step "workaround" just isn't in my
capability range. Can someone at the Microsoft Guru Works PLEASE invent a
downloadable "fix" for thise problem?

Can you tell that I am frustrated? I am way beyond my tolerance level here.
If you want my personal opinion - which Bill Gates & Company could care less
about - This new Windows Vista is NOT - I repeat - NOT user friendly and
should NEVER have been released with so many bugs in it!

I do not know what is next . . . . . . .

Go back to XP or use a real OS like Ubuntu Linux, available at
www.ubuntu.com

As you bought the computer with XP installed, HP must provide a way to
get your computer to go back to the way it was when you bought it. If
you don't have a recovery CD, it's on a hidden partition on your hard
drive which, hopefully, Vista didn't nuke.

Re: I need an answer . . .

Does Quicken 2007 run on Ubuntu? would it be easy as all hell for the OP to
learn Ubuntu and run the program of his choice in a reasonable timeframe?

Did you make the dvd backups for XP? You should still be able to press
F10 or F11 at bootup to start the reinstall of XP, unless Vista has
corrupted your MBR. I havent tested Quicken 2007 on Linux, so I would
suggest going back to XP.

I don't think Quicken 2007 will run on Vista. I believe Intuit have
stated that they have no intention of issuing any fix for this known
problem.
This is not a Vista problem.

You might want to try the Quicken forums, accessible from the Quicken Home
page..

For an easy workaround on the Quicken Backup. Backup to Documents (or
Desktop) and then move the file to your flash drive. If that doesn't work,
burn it to a CD. Lots of "new" security hurdles.

What are your specific issues with IE7. You might want to post your problem
in the microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general newsgroup. That's where the
IE7 folks hang out.

For your information, the folks here on the newsgroups are not Microsoft
employees, just folks helping out where they can - plus a few trolls that
help no one.

Frank,

I think that what Intuit has said is that nothing prior to Quicken 2007 is
not going to work. Quicken and QuickBooks both stored information in files
located in the now "forbidden zone" of the operating system. They were
informed that Vista would not allow this almost 4 years ago, and still
released and sold the 2006 versions knowing they wouldn't work. They have a
web page that reads as if this is all news to them:
http://accountant.intuit.com/practice_resources/articles/technology/article.aspx?file=in_W-Vista-Up-0107

From Intuit's site:
Quicken Home & Business 2007 includes all of the powerful investment
planning features of Quicken Premier, plus tools to help you run your home
business finances accurately.

* Runs on Windows Vista T
* Track, categorize and balance business and personal expenses to help
simplify year end tax preparation
* Keep an accurate record of hidden tax deductions like mileage and
household utilities
* Schedule C tax report helps provide an instant summary of your
deductible expenses.
* See how your business is doing by tracking unpaid invoices and
upcoming bills in The Business Center

Re: I need an answer . . .

In regards to Quicken 2007, make sure you have the latest release. If you
do a Help About and your release is R3 or below, go to quicken.custhelp.com
and download the R4 patch.

In regards to your IE7 problem, have you tried running IE7 without ANY
add-ins enabled?

To do that hit the START button and type "internet explorer" You should see
two entries come up at the top of the search list "Internet Explorer" and
"Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)"

select the latter.

If running without add-ons resolved your stability issue this would indicate
that you have an installed add-on that is causing IE7 to crash. You can use
Tools/Manage Add-ons to see what add-ons you have installed. One by one
disable them until you find the one that is causing the issue. You can then
enable the other ones.

Perhaps you should get a "real" life and learn to give "real" advice.
A novice that has issues with Windows Vista is not equipped to deal with the
issues that Ubuntu brings, and you neglect to comprehend that Quicken will
not run under Ubuntu.

Now how about you take a "real" dose of STFU until you can contribute
something meaningful and constructive.

Note I said "go back to XP". Excellent advice.

Use something else then or take the above advice until Quicken's ready
for Vista.

Dismount your ego from your Moral High Horse and provide something
helpful yourself or STFU.

Um, read his post. Quicken isn't the only problem he's having with the
upgrade.

He can use XP until Vista's ready for prime time.

Or he can learn Linux.

Re: I need an answer . . .

Yours appears to be getting the better of you.. Quicken doesn't work in
Linux.. according to the website, Quicken 2007 Premier IS Vista compatible..
the best advice is to go to the Quicken Forum, accessible from the home
page..

Advising the OP to maybe turn to Ubuntu was not appropriate and you know
it..
