Vista Home Premium Full version

Looks like this is the version I'll be buying. Was going to get an Upgrade
version but someone here posted that it won't allow an install of the 64-bit
version from within 32-bit XP (I don't have a 64-bit XP disc). I need it to
be future-proof so a full version it is, as I'm sure I'll be getting 64-bit
hardware in a year or two.

£219.99 seems to be the official price (Amazon UK and PC World online).
Similar price in Germany (Amazon.de)

Re: Vista Home Premium Full version

A prudent choice in any edition. The XP x64 disc wouldn't help you anyway
since Vista Upgrade Editions don't ask for shiny media. XP x64 would have
to be running on the box.

that prize is wrong, because:
Home Basic cost is $199.00 USD (149 Euro | £100)
Home Premium cost is $239.00 USD (179 Euro | £121)

Belive me, that price is correct! You will not get Vista Premium for 121 UKP
(and it is 329 Euro on Amazon.de!)

Amazon is profiteering because that price is too high!
I will never buy Vista at that price!!!!!

On Microsoft site there's written:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...ome_basic.mspx
"Suggested retail price for full package product, $199.00 USD"

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...e_premium.mspx
"Suggested retail price for full package product, $239.00 USD"

Amazon is profiteering
Amazon is profiteering
Amazon is profiteering
Amazon is profiteering
Amazon is profiteering

Re: Vista Home Premium Full version

Not just Amazon, I think the price will be the same everywhere in the
UK/Europe.
By way of a comparison, XP Pro Upgrade is $184.99 (around £94) on Amazon US,
it's around £160 just about everywhere in the UK (not just Amazon!).

Re: Vista Home Premium Full version

I think that's due to the great* pound to dollar exchange rate at the
minute. I for one have stopped looking for people going on a European trip
to get me cheap cigarettes and am now looking for people going to the US for
cheap everything.

Re: Vista Home Premium Full version

Yeah, there was an article in last Sunday's "New York Times" about the
tremendous increase in European/UK tourists coming to the US just for
shopping sprees.

Re: Vista Home Premium Full version

Amazon is NOT profiteering. The pricing for Vista in the UK is set by
Microsoft UK. Pricing here in Australia is set by Microsoft Australia, etc
etc. And yes, outside of the US the pricing is ridiculous.

That has been illegal in the UK for at least 30 years.

Whatever MS charges the retailers and wholesalers doesn't affect what
they charge?

Of course it will, I would expect large retailers to be able so sell it
cheaper than one man bands - but MS cannot dictate the price. I would have
thought most countries had laws like that?

The fine for a breach in the EU is up to 10% of turnover.

Re: Vista Home Premium Full version

And for the past 30 years the way to get around it has been the ubiquitous
"Recommended Retail Price". That's the price that is 'fixed', or should I
say 'recommended', by the manufacturer. ;-)
