C00D11B1 please help!!!

I am having a problem getting media player to work. It wont play any type of
audio or video. I am running version 11 and have xp all updates. I have tried
every fix i found by searching google (ie. installed 3rd party codec packs,
re-installed wmp several times).

I checked my computer manufacturer and motherboard manufacturer for driver
updates and did update the audio driver.

Music plays fine using itunes, qt or real player.

I think I found my problem but dont know how to fix it.
When I go to Tools>Options>Devices and double click "speakers", there is
nothing in the "audio device to use" box. the pull-down menu is blank! but if
I click on Advanced>Audio, then my default audio device is listed there.

I have no Idea how to fix this PLEASE HELP!!! ITS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR AND
CAN'T FIND ANYONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO FIX!!!

OK I think i have cracked it

I had a similar problem in the WMP11 stop working

Real player still played music but not video

is now fixed and this is what i did

Click start / run / then type (dxdiag)

click on the Direct X files

On mine it should that it was missing quartz.dll file

so i downloaded it from the internet and saved into
c:/windows/system32

I dont know why this works but it did for me

Re: C00D11B1 please help!!!

Solved for me, See 11 below

I am posting on this thread, rather than more recent threads on the same topic on this forum,
because this thread comes up higher on Google searches for COOD11B1

I tried the suggestions provided by the kind people on this thread but they did not work.
I am trying to play an mp4 file from my Sanyo HD2 Xacti camera, using windows media player
11.05721 which is the latest version. They used to play using Windows Media Player, my player
of choice.
I can play the mp4 files using Quicktime and my Editor (Sony Vegas). An example file is
http://nihonbunka.com/temp/SANY0059.MP4
but it is just a bog standard non-DRMd mp4 (of my son).

1) As jc131939 kindly suggested, I tried dxdiag (a complex program that
I did not know I had) which told me I was missing d3drm.dll, which is apparently related
to the display of 3D. I downloaded it from the net
d3drm.dll Download for Windows Vista
and put it into system32 of my Windows XP system folder, and subsequently dxdiag say that
I am not missing any dll's. I went through the other tabs and there are some messages,
and three diagnostic programs or two, but all the video (various boxes and bouncy square,
tenis game-like things) and sound (jungle sounds at various qualities)
diagnostics seemed to work fine. none of them seem relevant. The "problems" are
nv4_disp.dll does not have a digital signature.
p17.sysd oes not have a digital signature.
Neither problems sound relevant.

2) The link sent by Media Man does not work.

3) The microsoft page,
Microsoft Windows Media - Web Help
that is also accessible by pressing "Web Help" from the error message,
talks about a problem with my sound device. There does not seem to be
any problem. My computer plays sound. There are no exclamation marks in
my device manager.

4) Elsewhere on this forum,"DisableProtectedAudioDG
C00D11B1 Error - Help!c00d11b1-error-help.html
Mike Poz suggested that I make a change to the registry
================================================== =========================
Vista-only: Some systems have "DisableProtectedAudioDG" set to 0x1 under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Audio , which
will break some audio playback. Reset that to 0x0 and Urge files should work
again. (This can lead to error 0xc00d11b1 if set wrong.)
================================================== =========================
However, I do not have the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Audio
On my machine.

5) Playlist problem (also Mike Poz)
http://www.technologyquestions.com/technology/windows-media/127094-c00d11b1-error-help.html
I am not playing the media from a playlist but from a media card, desktop
and C drive. Aha...while .MP4 are associated with windows media player,
when I browse using Windows Media player (File menu, open, C:) then while jpg files avi and mp3 files are shown, .MP4 files are not among the
"all media files" displayed. I must select all files *.* to display them.
Windows Media Player no longer recognises MP4 files as media files!
I tried changing the file to a .mpg and .avi and get the same error message.

6) "Windows Media Player error c00d11b1 solved" looked promising
Windows Media Player error c00d11b1 solved David Strom’s Web Informant
And I downloaded uknown drm related files from the link
Security component upgrade
given. Files were downloaded. But nothing happened.
In the comments (the first three not relevant)
6.4) I did not update codecs because I am using XP and I have loads of codecs
in my Combined Community Codec Pack and Quicktime.
6.5) I don't have a firewall.
6.6) I don't have the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM\ (as mentioned below)
6.8) Also does not have the folder
6.9) says The correct location is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\
I do not have that folder.
There is
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
but no DRM and
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft
but no DRM and
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
but no DRM. There were two bin files in there which I deleted!

7) This "What Is A Media Player c00d11b1 Error?" page looked promising too.
Media Player c00d11b1 | PC Error Repair
I did not try the uninstalling Windows Media Player advice. The first problem
there is NO tools menu, until I right click the top bar of the player
(I spent quite a while looking for a tools menu!) (now I have set media
player to the "classic" design I do see a tools menu.)
The above page suggests a variet of things
7.1) Autodetect proxy settings
Media Player>Tools menu (or right click on top bar)> Options>Network tab> Streaming
Proxy Settigns> Configure >Autodetect
No help
7.2) Turn off "UDP"
Media Player>Tools menu (or right click on top bar)> Options>Network tab> Streaming
Proxy Settigns>Uncheck RST/UDP (I also tried unchecking RST/TCP and HTTP, to no avail)
7.3) Correct Sound Device?
edia Player>Tools menu (or right click on top bar)> Options>Devices Tab>Audio>
Properties button There are two media devices (Default and Sound Blaster Live!)
It was default. I tried both in vain.
I did not purchase or try out their registry repair software.

8) "C00D11B1 Error: Eureka!"
C00D11B1 Error: Eureka!
Looked promising again.
8.1) Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>hardware>select audio device>Properties but there was no
"Advanced" tab.
There was a driver tab and I have updated my Sound Blaster driver. I am now going to reboot.
Post reboot, no improvement.
8.2) "Connect to Internet"
Windows Media Player> Tools> Options > Player > CHECK "Connect to the Internet (overrides other commands)
UNCHECK "Start the mini Player for file names that contain this text:..."
Tried that to no avail.
8.3) Update DRM licence again
The link given on the tech-archive does not work but it is the same as
Security component upgrade
above which I have already done. I did it again, in vain.
8.4.1) "FIRST STEP" Display Hidden Folders (I do this from Explorer (not IE!)
>Tools>Folder Options>View>Show hidden (I have show hidden on always).
8.4.2) "SECOND STEP". Not relevant. I don't have the text files mentioned on my desktop.
8.4.3) "THIRD STEP" I do not have a folder c:\programdata\microsoft\DRM or a folder
c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\DRM
I do have C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Application Data\Microsoft
but there is no DRM folder inside it. I DO have
C:\Documents and Settings\timtak\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
and inside it there is a file called
007E4030.wpl
which is a playlist created two years ago (I never use playlists)
If I double click this file I am told that some of the items in the playlist don't exist and
can't be played. Since I don't care about playlists, I am going to delete this file! In vain.
Windows media player still plays other files but not MP4
8.4.4) "FOURTH STEP"
Media Player>Tools menu (or right click on top bar)> Options>Plug ins tab>Audio highlight
nothing there to uncheck.
8.4.5) "FIFTH STEP" Hide hidden files again. No thanks. I likel to be able to hide hidden
files.

Other ideas...of my own
9) A service
I have turned of and to manual some services recently. I was trying to solve a problem
that turned out to be with a faulty keyboard, and improve system performance, using
services.msc based on some advice on the net, particularly
Turn Off Unnecessary Windows XP Services | JasonN.com
A services I turned to manual was Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. It is now
ON while still set to manual. Since it is on, I doubt that that service is the problem,
but perhaps I switched off a service that Windows Media Player needs to conect to the net
(RST, TCP!??). I have tried turning services on one by one to see if any of them makes
a difference but none that I have tried do. And googling for "windows media player"
c000d11b1 and services.msc has no hits.
windows media player" services.msc c00d11b1 - Google Search

10) FDDDShow, Combined Community Codec Pack and all that codec jazz? I have not touched them.
In the past when I can't play mp4 i assume that it is a codec issue, e.g. here
Can't open Xacti DMX HD2 MP4 in Vegas - Steve's Digicams Forums
But both Quicktime and my editor (Sony Vegas) still plays the mp4 files, hence I do not
think it is a codec problem. If the codec plays in quicktime and Vegas shouldn't it
work in windows media player.

11) The solution! I tried using the alternative video player, zplayer which came with the combined codecs pack. It is not a bad player itself but I
have had issues with it.
Even using zplayer to play MP4 files I get the message Can't play this file,
"This may be due to a corrupt file, missing filters, filter conflicts, or hardware related issues"
I googled this message which took me to the Zplayer forums
Inmatrix Forums > mkv files
Inmatrix Forums > mkv files
where Blight and Dark Angel pointed me to the Haali Media Splitter.
(The Haali mediasplitter is mentioned in the setup screens of the
Community Codec Pack, which I trust so)
I downloaded the Haali Media splitter from here (top right)
Haali Media Splitter
Haali Media Splitter
And low and behold, both zplayer and Windows media player
play MP4 files fine!

I am not even sure what the "Haali Media Splitter" is.
(It would be nice if it would allow me to split MP4
files without rerendering). It comes from Rumania.

It is absolutely crazy that there is more/better
support for Zplayer than there is for Windows Media Player.
The problem likes in the fact that the C00D11B1 is caused
by so many different things. Microsoft, get your act together.
Do some better, finer grained error reporting.
