Strange font from my MP3 Player in WMP12

I'm running Windows Media Player under Windows 7 Ultimate.

I have some self-created albums in my library that I have downloaded to my
MP3 player. When I look at the albums stored in my MP3 player's memory using
Windows Media Player 12 in the "Synch" mode, the titles of the albums are
either dots or something that looks like Japanese. This is confusing and
makes telling the albums apart difficult.

The album titles for the albums that are on my system are OK. This problem
exists only for albums stored in the memory of the MP3 player.

Is this a known issue? How can I get this display to come up in English
characters? Is it possible that WMP12 need a font that is not installed? If
so, what is the font I need to install?

I've not heard of this issue before.

About how old (in years) is the MP3 player (what make and model too?)
- and was the content previously Synced from an older version of
windows / media player ?

It could be worth backing up the player, formatting it, deleting the
Sync relationship in WMP and re-populating the player to see if it's
reproducible or a one-off corruption...
