when I "open" media player it is minimized on the start bar, when I click to
bring up the view screen, it stays minimized and disappears to right side of
screen. This happens with version 9 + 11 ( had 11 installed and rolled back
to 9 but don't know what version I have now.

Right-click on the taskbar icon using your mouse, and choose "Move"
from the menu Now leave your mouse aside, and use only the arrow keys
on your keyboard.

Move down/left or up/right until the player window starts to appear on
screen, then continue until you can drag it fully on screen.

Now close the player window using the [X] icon top right in the
player, which will save the last screen position.

Restarting the player should now be where you last closed it.

As a bit of background, sometimes this happens if you connect a second
monitor and put the player on there (then close it and disconnect the
monitor), it can also sometimes happen with accidental enthusiastic
clicking that sort of 'throws' it off the screen ;-)
