I can play MPEG-4 files created by Nero in WMP-11 but I cannot import them
into the library for transfer to my Toshiba Gigabeat player - anyome know why
not?

If you want to import .mp4 to Library you need to install a codec package.

In this case, Orban have a codec and install package which sets up those
registry values as part of the install : http://www.orban.com/plugin/
Does that make your life easier ?
