Hm, it has always played CDs for me until very recently. Now, when I enter a
CD into my computer's disc drive, Windows Media player simply does not
respond to my action. I was wondering if anyone on here had any suggestions.
I have looked through the FAQ and WMP help section, but I could not solve the
problem.

And help would be appreciated, thank you.

I'm assuming the disk otherwise spins up briefly, and the disk light
comes on, indicating the drive has noticed a CD being put in.

In Vista, if you go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs, find
Default Programs then below that "Change settings for media or
devices"

Under Audio CD, set "Play audio CD using windows media player" as it
may be set to "Take No Action". On the Ask me every time setting, it's
possible for that to pop up asking what to do, and then click (by
accident) take no action. OKing that could result in no action being
taken in future disk inserts.
