UPnP

Hey,

I'd like to use Windows Media Encoder to stream a video(conference) to my
friends. The only problem is that I can't portforward (I'm not allowed to)
ports in my router. But my router DOES support UPnP.

My question is: is there any way of implementing UPnP in WM Encoder? Because
if I share this videofile over UTorrent (this is the only thing that works)
then it uses UPnP and I'm connectable to anyone, but only over the bittorrent
protocol and not over the mms / shoutcast protocol...

Tnx in advance!

You probably don't need to port forward if this is a home router
(though you haven't said why you're "not allowed to" - sounds a bit
dubious to me)

Set up the router to put your PC in the DMZ (demiltarised zone - check
router manual for steps and terminology). Just make sure you have a
good firewall setup first, and allow port 80 connections to your
encoder.

HTH

Re: UPnP

Uh so I guess if it's *really* your uncle (and not, say, your
employer) then buy your own router and plug it in when he's gone out ?

Re: UPnP

MSN messenger or Skype, with webcam input, can use UPnP to
"circumvent" restricive firewall/router policies, if properly
configured.
