Can't get Windows Media Player 11 to play asf files

When I try to open a video clip email attachment (asf file) using WMP 11 I
get the following error message:

Windows Media Player Error Message Help
You've encountered an error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media
Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Codec is missing
Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio
or video portion of the file) because the Sharp G.726 Audio (45) codec is not
installed on your computer.

The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To
search for the Sharp G.726 Audio (45) codec, see WMPlugins.com.

I have tried repeatedly to download and install the recommended plug-in.
It appears to download and install but then I am always told the plug-in is
not installed and I am sent back to the download page yet again.

Roger.

Re: Can't get Windows Media Player 11 to play asf files

As far as I'm aware, Sharp hasn't released a Vista-compatible G.726 codec,
so you would not be able to play the content on Vista at this time. =\
