| Windows Media 11 and Codec 9 I have been trying to stream video from a website. The video was ok but there was no sound. I contacted the website operator and they e-mailed me the WMV file. Again when I played it with WMP11 the was video and no sound. I took the file and passed it through windows movie maker. It created a WMV file and the audio played ok! It seems the file they sent me was coded using codec 9 and the file I created used codec 9.2. Question - why did the latest version of WMP 11 not playback a file with codec 9? |

It's possible you have codec download turned off (though that should also affect MovieMaker since they should share the codecs) Go to Now Playing, click the small dropdown arrow, choose More Options then the Player tab. Is "Download codecs automatically" ticked or unticked ? If it's unticked, make sure WMP can go to the internet. Tick the "Connect to the internet (overrides other commands)" box. All the WMV codecs are on MS' codec servers, and they should automatically download and install when they're first required in use. | Re: Windows Media 11 and Codec 9 Neil the story has advanced since yesterday. It would seem that the problem was possibly caused by ac3filter.ax. I was using version 1.1. When I deleted it everything came good. I have another post with more information.
