Unable to play all media files correctly with WMP11

I'm unable to see the video on all media file types. The audio plays but the
video is garbled, mostly black with occasionally blue and red spots that move
with the video that should be there.

I've tried installing and uninstalling countless codecs and filters but I
can't seem to restore the video. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the
latest WMP

What are the basic codecs I need to be able to view all common video types
so I know its not a codec conflict or alternatively can anyone point me to a
solution?

I'm using WMP11 with XP sp2 on a PC
GeForce 8800gts
1G RAM

That's a horrible suggestion, sadly. Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher is
kind of known for blowing up and crashing the player.

Please avoid the All in One Codec Pack, or anything at all, really, that
includes that Stream Switcher or Voxware MetaSound. They WILL cause
problems. =(
