| Re: Where to find example files in various formats It is quite old, and I admit I didn't try all of the links. What happened when you tried the other google hits ? MS have a habit of rearranging their websites without notice, and not correcting the mass of page not found errors which are then generated. I'm not aware of a comparable (or canonical) page though I'll try to remember to find a similar example somewhere for reference. | Re: Where to find example files in various formats Ah, if only life were that simple... I've spent the last week trying to gather example files in each of the formats supported by Windows Media Player. Using search engines only seems to be useful for finding descriptions of the file formats, not sample files themselves. I've had more luck using some file-sharing programs, but still don't have them all. Try finding an example .IVF file and you'll see what I mean... | Re: Where to find example files in various formats Why would you need an IVF? I've been asked to write some Javascript code which monitors a video (uploaded by a user) and extract information like total time, time so far, etc. I need to have tested my code with every format supported by Windows Media Player, and therefore allow for unlikely events like someone uploading an IVF file. I contacted Indeo but they said that IVF was a "legacy format" and they didn't even have any sample files! "zachd [MSFT]" wrote: > > The article should be updated now. > > Why would you need an IVF? Real player have sample clips on their website for RA and RV at different encoder conformance levels : http://service.real.com/realplayer/test/ Some Realpix (RP) samples are on this page : http://www.realnetworks.com/support/...s/realpix.html The other formats are a right witches brew, I'm wasn't even sure what most of those formats are (I've seen and used a lot ;-) until I read http://home.real.com/product/help/rp...ia_Formats.htm SND I *think* is a very old audio format, possibly Mac or even Amiga. Websites dealing with those platforms may be the best starting point Most files with names ending in AIF* are a form of RIFF audio, again check Mac platform websites for those - possibly the Quicktime areas on www.apple.com might have some pointers. MPV2 is probably MPEG2 and more specifically the video only version which is more commonly represented by the file extension .m2v it would typically be used where you take a multiplexed MPEG2 file (one which contains both video and audio) and you 'demux' it to separate video and audio files e.g. a .m2v and a .ac3 This page includes a sample .m2v file, and even though it is on an Apple QuickTime related page it should work in other programs include WMP if you have an MPEG2 codec http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75424 AIFC is the revised version of the original AIFF standard specified by Apple. While I believe in theory it could be a compressed version (hence the letter C) I have never in reality seen a compressed AIFF (of any type) file. iTunes for Mac and Windows will convert to and from AIFF format and I would expect this would be the newer AIFC style (but uncompressed). Here are some links for info regarding AIFF/AIFC http://developer.apple.com/documenta.../imsoundmgr.36 ..htm http://www-mmsp.ece.mcgill.ca/Docume...AIFF/AIFF.html Sample AIFF and AIFC files are here http://www-mmsp.ece.mcgill.ca/Docume...F/Samples.html SND resources pre-date Mac OS X, i.e. They were for Mac OS 9 or earlier. Mac operating systems prior to Mac OS X did not typically use file extensions so a .snd file is not necessarily Mac related. Indeed I have seen reference to ..snd files being more to do with Sun Micro or Amiga computers An example .snd file can be found on this Microsoft page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992 |

Real player 11 beta has the ability to download and save linked files - have you tried that yet ? It should be able to copy the files using the download manager. A manual altenative : Right-click the RAM file link, choose Save-As. Now open that in Notepad. In any text editor (homesite, notepad, frontpage) create links to each of the RM files which are referenced in the RAM playlist - for example : <html> <body> <a href="http://service.real.com/file/example.rv">real video</a> etc etc etc </body> </html> Save that (web page) as (eg) download.html and open it in your web browser. Right-click each media link and choose Save As. HTH Cheers - Neil ------------------------------------------------ Digital Media MVP : 2004-2007 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/mvpfaqs |
