I have recently reloaded my operating system from scratch. When receiving
emails with .wmv files attached, media player opens and displays the C00D1197
error message...

here is the actual text of the message: Windows Media Player cannot play the
file. If the file is on another computer, verify that you are connected to
the network. If you typed a path, verify that it is correct. If the problem
persists, the server might not be available.

The C00D1197 message is found by clicking on the More Information button...

Save the email attachment to your hard disk (eg in My Documents / My
Videos) and try to play it from there.

If it really *is* a WMV file then it's likely to play.

If it appears just to have a windows media icon, it could be an AVI or
MPEG file though, for which the resolution steps are differerent.
