Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

We have run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor on one of our older PCs (XP Pro
SP3) and it says that the motherboard components (LAN. audio) and the
graphics device are compatible.
Does this mean that the available Windows XP drivers will work on Windows 7
too?
Or do we need to download updated drivers?
Regards and TIA.

Or that the drivers are in the win 7 installation.
After a clean install ( win 7 saves all the old windows folder as windows
old) Every think bar the winfast tv card was working but the ati Graphics
was updated within a hour and the winfast by the next day all Automatic

The driver model changed between XP and Vista, essentially MSFT started to
enforce guidelines that had been around a long time but were generally
ignored. Some Vista drivers work with Win7 but generally XP drivers won't.

You are probably SOL. Even if you could, Vista/Win 7 would likely run
like a stuck pig on designed for XP hardware.

But if you want, discover the hardware not recognized, and if the vendor
makes drivers you still might be able to go through the hoops to load
it. But missing drivers means that hardware will not work at all. One
exception might be the video, it might work non-optimally.

Better off to keep it XP. XP is much faster in several critical areas
given the same hardware.

Thanks for the input.
Actually, for different reasons though, we are veering
to keeping XP on this particular machine now!
:-)
Regards and thanks.

If in doubt what I like to do is swap in a old (spare) hard drive and see
how the install goes on that. If things look and work right I'll install it
on the hard drive the customer wants to use.

No. First bet.

My second bet is that they are on the 7 DVD. No doubt you have found this out by
now ;-)

Whoa! Vista and Win 7 in the same "word". Vista was the pig. 7 is XP
improved.
