I've been using it since it was a Pay-For version and they've modified
it now that it's an Open Source project.

Since I don't do binaries, although it does handle them, it's a great
product since it's text based, has no flaws that the Email reader Usenet
Clients do, and it's very easy to manage.

No you are NOT.
X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Live Mail 14.0.8089.726

That is Windows Live Mail - NOT "Outlook Express".

Re: Windows 7 News Reader

Hi, Bullwinkle.

> Windows 7 has a built in newsreader. Just press go and it takes you there.

No. It's not "built in". IF it is there, then someone put it there AFTER
Win7 was installed and working.

Many computer manufacturers (such as Sony, Dell and HP) pre-install
"bundles" of software at the factory, before even shipping it to you or to
the stores. Many stores (Best Buy, Wal*Mart, Office Depot) MAY add more
software to their bundle. But many computer buyers have complained of all
the "bloat" and "crapware" that is on their new computer when they open the
box.

Every copy of WinXP had Outlook Express built in. Every copy of Vista had
Windows Mail (NOT Windows LIVE Mail) built in. But Windows 7 leaves
Microsoft with NO built-in mail client or newsreader.

If you didn't download and install Windows Live Mail, then someone did it
before they sold the computer to you.

Sorry, that's still not correct. Your headers show what you are using.
It's X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Live Mail 14.0.8089.726

Windows Live Mail is *not* a newsreader built into Windows 7. It's a
separate product that you downloaded and installed. Alternatively, you
may have an OEM Windows 7 computer in which the OEM installed it for
you. But either way, it's *not* part of Windows 7.

I've been using xNews for over a decade! It's not behaving so well on 64-
bit Win7. I mentioned it's needing some permission adjusting.

The Gravity program seemed able but had too many features "hidden behind
dialog box curtains." Not to mention Gravity doesn't offer any help on
Win7 without installing something I don't want to. xNews has the
hypertext manual online.

I also didn't see multiple servers to start from. Granted, I only spent a
brief half hour trying it.

Re: Windows 7 News Reader

I use a dual-boot system with Win7 64bit on one partition to run flight
simulator programs, DVDs, music and other things that benifit from DX10 and
64 bit interface. XP Pro 32bit on the other partition with Outlook for text
news and mail, X-news for binaries. I have no tolerance for bloated malware/
spyware like Windows Live--Store/access your contacts and messages online???
Yeah, next they'll offer Windows Live Banking. I'll keep my information
right here behind my firewall and encrypt if need be thank you very much.
If I had choose a news reader for 7 I would try Thunderbird. I tried Xnews
and it has some issues that need looked at and there may be a beta version
of it I haven't tried.
