I upgraded my son's PC from Vista to Windows7 32 bit - I really should have
upgraded to 64 bit. Is it too late now? Can I some how still
upgrade/change my current setup to 64 bit? or I'm done for it?

64 bit requires a fresh install.

If you only need about 3 gigs of RAM the 32bit version should be fine...
but if you plan to use over 3 gigs (or so of RAM)
You will need to install the 64bit OS fresh.


There is no way the 32bit version of Vista could have been upgraded to
64 bit Win7

nor would a 64bit version of Vista have been upgradeable to Win7 64bit

I hope You are wrong - I'm running Vista 64 bit and have an upgrade to W7 64
bit in the maiul, it is supposed to work.
According to MS windows Home Premium 64 bit can be upgraded to W7 Home
Premium 64 or W7 Ultimate 64 bit. Othervise it may play hell with licences
to other programs like MS Office 2007 etc.

I did an upgrade install from Vista Home Premium 64 to W7 64 without
problem....took a long time but there were no problems. Go for it. You may
get a warning right at the start that certain programs are not compatible
and to uninstall them. Do that and continue.

I just finished an upgrade from Vista Home Premium 64 to ths Windows 7 Home
Premium 64, took some time, but works fine. I used the upgrade to keep the
settings - the machine is fairly new (August 10 2009) so I felt I didn't
have any issues with the old ilstallation that I wanted to get rid of. Now I
just need to see if my Samsung CLP 510N will work (Does in Vista Home
Premium 32, but not 64) and also my scanner.
