website set-up

I'm trying to set up a website but at the start i have to set up a new page or go to an html file, why would I chose a file from html if I'm using a WYSIWYG builder?

I'm glad you are starting to design a website; however, there are a few questions that will help us direct you to an answer.

First, what type of editor are you using? For example, I use textpad for editing php files and Microsoft Expression for sites needing complete maintenance.

Since you reference "a WYSIWYG builder" - what are you trying to use?

Second, where is the site being hosted? Your host will have to setup the types of files accepted. For example, I prefer to set up ftp logins so that I can directly upload the files. Most WYSIWYG programs have the upload ability if the proper values are put into the program.

Would you mind being more clear as to what you are trying.

PS. Your post was moved to the proper forum :)

Re: website set-up

You need to setup a web server software first, like Web server - RaidenHTTPD official homepage, An easy to use Web Server software for Windows, Apache, IIS replacements (RaidenHTTPD web server)

then name your web page as index.html or index.htm under the web root directory so people can see it as default page of your web site.

extension name is just used to tell the windows or browser about its file type and association to opener programs like IE.

Re: website set-up

In addition to knowing the building blocks of a site,it is necessary to know that having a good domain name is half the SEO work already done... :)
