| vista seems very sensitive to hardware changes I don't know if its me but my vista software throws a major tantrum if I fit an additional hard drive. I find invariably that it wont boot. I can run a repair from the CD but it seems silly to have to do this. Windows XP and earlier versions just found the new drive during the boot and added it as another drive letter but after fitting an additional hard drive vista gives me an error page that says winload.exe is missing or corrupt. |

Here's what I see. I turn on the drive (USB 2.0) I immediately get the audio ping that Windows "sees" it, then a few seconds later it brings up a little window in the lower right hand corner of your desktop and says it found a new drive. Depending on how the drive it setup it will either just show up in Explorer as a new Drive Letter or it may autoplay and for example show a scrolling lists of files on the drive, then other times it may present a list of options. Ditto for internal drives if I add one, only it just adds them and says it found them. You're not alone though: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=467055&SiteID=17 If you're using a SATA drive to boot off of, all bets off. Lots of issues from Windows to BIOS to motherboard issues. |
