Local D missing

i noticed it initially when trying to resume a file i was downloading. i
received an error about the file missing, and tried locating it. Local D
(secondary harddrive) was not listed in Computer, Device Manager, or
Disk Management. i rebooted and the drive reappeared. i backed up my
files to C and tried running an error check. the error check failed
randomly and the drive was gone again. rebooting did not make the drive
reappear, and has been reappearing and disappearing sporadically since
it happened. i tried repairing and reinstalling Vista (Upgrade, not
clean), and still nothing. any ideas?

Re: Local D missing

u did not make it clear whether this was an internal or external hard drive.
if internal recheck the power/data cable connections. if external plug into
a different, motherboard/laptop based USB port as well as checking power.
hard drive manufacturers have software u can download that will identify a
failing hard drive.

If the disc is old, maybe it is broken.
