I'm considering a motherboards swap on my current computer and do not
want to reformat and reinstall vista home premium 32bit(oem) plus all my
programs.
I currently have a G-B p35-ds4 board and would swap to a gb p45 ds4
board. I intend to keep cpu,hdds, gpu and ram all the same and i only
have sata drives (no ide drives). I am asking advice on wheather it will
work fine due to the simular chipsets, and what i would need to
uninstall so that it transitions to the new hardware config smoothly and
what errors I can expect to pop up. If there is anyone who has gone
through a similar change I would appreciate the input on your
experience.

"similar" isn't "same". And just because your two mobos have
"similar" names doesn't mean that there won't be problems that will
require you to do a complete reinstall.

Only one way to find out.

So far as I know there is only one ACPI driver for 32-bit and only one for
64-bit Vista (unlike earlier versions of Windows) so that would not change.
The system should boot and may want to install one or more drivers. Do an
image backup of the system drive before swapping boards, of course.

What you wish to do is unwise, unrecommended and unlikely to make you happy.
Back up documents, wipe and reinstall, then restore documents.

Having had some experience with this, swapping a single core AMD CPU for a
quad core Intel CPU, I literally just switched out hardware, turned the PC
back on and let Windows Vista cope with the changes. It takes a while for
it to go to Windows Update and try to find the correct drivers (If not,
you've always got the CD from the motherboard manufacturer).... and after 10
minutes or so, it asked to reboot.

Everything worked. I believe it did ask to reactive, which went through
online without a hitch, but I'm not using OEM software, everything is
retail. You may find your OEM Windows is tied to your current motherboard's
BIOS, in which case, it will NOT activate... it may not even start.

I have had the same successful experience. A lot of folks don't know that
there are not multiple ACPI drivers anymore. That was usually the cause of
problems with XP and earlier that required at least a repair install.

It worked exactly as you described
I've had no problems just had to let the drivers update and windows
reactivate.

I'm stoked.
