| Re: Can you help me , please ? Virtual Technology is a requirement to run XP Mode in Windows 7 it doesn't mean that you can't run other operating systems on virtual machine software. I don't use VirtualBox but many beta testers have installed Windows 7 on virtual software such as VMware Workstation; in fact I have just started an installation of Windows 7 myself in VMware Workstation to check to see if it works and the installation is progressing fine for me. (and my processor/motherboard does support virtual technology either.) What problems are you actually experiencing. Perhaps if we had more information someone could point you in the right direction. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". If you installed it on an internal hard drive, you should be able to dual-boot. If any of the Virtualisation products require that the cpu has VT, then you're not going to be able to use them. Microsoft's Virtual PC can't run any 64 bit guests. VMWare Workstation can run 64 bit guests provided that the cpu is 64 bit capable. -- Jane, not plain ;) 64 bit enabled :-) Batteries not included. | Re: Can you help me , please ? Windows 7 (or Windows Vista for that matter) will not install to a removable USB drive. I believe you can install to an eSATA removable drive, but not a standard USB removable drive. If I have time i'll download Virtualbox and see if I can install Windows 7. I take it you are using the DVD to try to install to Virtualbox and 'not' the ghost copy? If you are using the ghost copy that is probably the cause of your problem. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | Re: Can you help me , please ? Crodino, I've only just realized that I don't have a 64 Bit version of Windows 7 downloaded; however, I have downloaded Virtualbox and have installed the 32 Bit version of Windows 7. Installation went without a hitch. This was installing Windows 7 RC1 from the DVD that I have. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | Re: Can you help me , please ? Crodino, As I pointed out in my first post VT technology is only applicable to XP Mode in Windows 7 and, as this is a separate download for Windows 7 it has nothing to do with the issue. So what you are saying is that Windows 7 32 Bit 'will' install on Virtual Box but the 64 Bit version of Windows 7 'will not'? I have read posts where people have said that Virtualbox doesn't support Windows 7, built we have both installed Windows 7 on Virtualbox so that is somewhat of a myth. Virtualbox is also 32 Bit and 64 Bit compliant so I'm puzzled as to why the 64 Bit version will not install, it certainly hasn't anything to do with your processor not having VT technology. Let me download the 64 Bit version from myself and try installing it on Virtualbox and see what happens. Incidentally my machine also does not support VT. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | Re: Can you help me , please ? As was pointed out, you will need a system that has VT enabled and accessible to run the virtualized WindowsXP inside of WIndows7. That being said, you should be able to run Windows 7 RC inside a VM just fine, provided the VM thinks it is installed on a set drive and not a removable one. You can also get Windows 7 to boot from a .VHD file if you aren't hosting it in a virtual machine (VMware, VirtualBox, VirtualPC, etc). Beyond that, make sure the version you are installing matches whatever limitations your Virtualization software has. If you still have issues getting it installed or working, try posting on the official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here: http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. They are pretty quick to answer questions, and many questions already have answers and fixes if you poke around a bit. |
