| Re: Enhanced Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working Hi, Most likely the multimedia keyboard software has been disabled. The driver files are supporting the basic keyboard functions, but it's the multimedia software that supports all the additional keys. It either needs to be enabled in the startup group, or reloaded by reinstalling a fresh package from HP. Run msconfig from the start/search line and check the startup tab to see if has been disabled first. If so, simply recheck it, apply and reboot. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "razzell2" <guest@unknown-email.com> wrote in message news:30902a565aac23764076b1ef003b2a42@nntp-gateway.com... > > I have a new HP Pavilion running Vista Home Premium. | Re: Enhanced Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working Hi I have the same problem with a new HP Pavilion m9425f and multimedia keyboard. I reinstalled the keyboard driver several times and worked with HP for one month to resolve this issue. Still no luck. Sometimes the keyboard buttons ALL work. Sometimes NONE work. Sometimes the keyboard|buttons properties are empty and sometimes they are set. However, even when set, sometimes the actual buttons don't work. I am running Vista 64-bit Home Premium. The keyboard driver is v1.0.7.1. I am interested if someone has a solution to this issue and whether others users are experiencing the same issue. RD. | Re: Enhanced Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working Similar symptoms could have different causes. At one point my HP MM keyboard buttons stopped functioning and it was all because of a specific MS update. A short time later MS issued a fixed update and the keyboard worked again. HP doesn't support my keyboard at all in Vista so only the basic functions work. I switched to an MS keyboard that had certain features I really, really, wanted and now my Media Center remote's volume control doesn't always work. The solution to fixing the one will deprive me of the other. :-) To try and isolate the possible cause I'd start by looking at any software or hardware that was added to the computer just prior to when the problem with the multimedia buttons first started to occur. I had severe graphics card problems once (computer crashes) that turned out to be caused by certain security software. Removed the offending software and never had the problems again. | Re: Enhanced Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working Thanks for your reply. I've seen another post in another forum where the user stated that removing one of the MS security patches solved the problem. In general, this is not a good solution as it relates to the driver itself. The issue in my case started on day one or close to. Don't recall exactly. I can of course reinstall the factory shipped operating system and check whether the problem is still there. Lots of efforts with probably little benefits as one has to add all MS critical updates thereafter. Again, would appreciate to get feedback from others about similar problems so that HP may start looking at their driver. I strongly suspect the fault is within their driver. Thanks, Roger. | Re: Enhanced Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working I can only add, that since i orginated this post, i have not an issue with my keyboard and the shortcut keys. as i stated, i had to learn to wait a couple of minutes for the keyboard drivers to load up, (they seem to be the very last thing to load), and then they work fine. if i try to quickly to, say, open my internet browser from the keyboard, nothing happens, and when i go check my "computer" link on the menu, all the DRIVES are gone....D, E, J, K, etc. (whatever they are labled). I have to reboot. But I do have this bit of advice, if you go looking for update keyboard drivers or updated software for your keyboard. DO NOT make the mistake of downloading the keyboard drivers for impaired peoples..(that sounds terrible but i cannot remember exactly what it was called)...ease of access or something,,,im sorry i dont recall.. but, when i first posted this, i went looking for hp keyboard driver updates and inadvertantly downloaded the wrong package.... and i had to contact an hp tech to help me reset and reload my original drivers. this is an hp update, or upgrade im talking about, for the hp pavilion, with vista32. so, be carefull. The Fall 2008 Original HP Multimedia Keyboard Driver can be found here, at HP Drivers and Support: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-64027-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3828977&os=2093&lang=en these are the most current hp multimedia keyboard drivers..not counting the other ones i was talking about....(oops). (if anyone knows the exact name of the ease of access keyboard drivers i am trying to describe, perhaps you can reply and let us know. i just do not remember what it was called, and how i got to them at hp support. stupid, i know. but it may help someone else...maybe even someone who needs these particular keyboard drivers) Russell "RogerD" wrote: > Thanks for your reply. | Re: Enhanced Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working I would like to know how to reprogram these buttons. My keyboard shortcut for email defaults to Windows Mail and I would like to change it to Microsoft Outlook. From the Control Panel, I can get into Hardware and Sound and then into Keyboard. Tab to Buttons and make changes, but cannot find the address information for Microsoft Outlook. I am using an HP Pavilion with Vista 64bit and the enhanced Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard. I am also using Microsoft Office Suite 2003. Thanks. -- thurtig ------------------------------------------------------------------------ thurtig's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/140561.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-hardware-devices/1091112.htm http://forums.techarena.in |
