No, you cannot use a standard ATA drive with any type of SATA connector,
they are not compatible.

Looks like it should work fine. SATA drive, SATA enclosure; should be okay.
No guarantees though as I have not used that combo of hardware. :-)

It does work on my computer. The enclosure is eSATA. The difference with
SATA is that it can be connected - disconnected without rebooting.
Just as with USB.

Internal SATA connectors are hotswappable as well, the difference with
eSATA is the shielding requirements allow a longer length without
suffering from interference.

There is a small adapter that allows you to use IDE devices on a SATA connection.
