| bought video card in hardware compatibility list but does not support aero?! I tried to buy an AGP video card so I can get aero, so I bought something cheap that is in the vista compatibility hardware list (evga nvidia geforce fx 5700 ultra 128M) After I installed the card, I found that aero is not supported using the built-in vista driver. If I use the nvidia driver, the text in the vista hold 'em game flashes continuously. Still no aero. Where can I find a list of video card that supports vista aero and has a stable driver? |

| Re: bought video card in hardware compatibility list but does not support aero?! Does your system have 1GB of Ram. If no it will not run Aero. Have you upgraded to the latest Vista driver release for your 5700 from the Nvidia Website? | Re: bought video card in hardware compatibility list but does not support aero?! Wow. That's a very old video card and very pre-Aero. The current nVidia series are in the 9000's. The minimum cards that will reliably support Aero are the 6000 series for nVidia, but even those may have some performance issues. I personally would recommend nothing lower than the 7000 series. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] rgharper******.com * NEW! Catch my blog ... | Re: bought video card in hardware compatibility list but does not support aero?! run your windows experience index with the new card. it will show you which component is holding your computer back. and if it meets the minimum requirements to run aero. you need a base score of 3 for aero. here is the system requirements for the graphics card to run aero, - Supports a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) driver - Has a DirectX 9-class graphics processor unit (GPU) that supports Pixel Shader 2.0 - Supports 32 bits per pixel - Passes the Windows Aero acceptance test in the Windows Driver Kit (WDK) -- serpentracer Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

Went to the help menu and did the Aero troubleshooting to enable all the proper check boxes in several different screens to make it work. Another thing is to make sure you go thru the process to update the windows experience index. Seems that you can't turn on Aero if the old experience index isn't big enough. Do this first. mike |

I'm typing this on an older laptop with a WEI of 2.0, and Aero is working just fine. |

| Re: bought video card in hardware compatibility list but does not support aero?! I think you may be only looking at the graphic card requirements. The following link contains all of the Vista Aero requirements including ones such as the requirement for 1GB of Ram memory. I had a one gig set of memory. it scored a 3.4. I put 2 gigs of memory of the same speed in, the base memory score went to 5.7. I'm not missing any points. that's how it works. if you have a base score of 1-3 you are not able to run all of aero's functions fully. I thought I was too. but I was def wrong. aero isn't just that feature that lets you flip through the screens. -- serpentracer Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
