Should also help stop some of those SP1 installation problems too
seeing that Realtek was one of the companies whose drivers had been
causing problems.

Is Realtek giving automatic updates or do I have to keep an eye on the site
every now and then?

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Drivers -- ver. 1.90 -- 31 March 2007

There is no way to get automatic updates (as far as I know) directly from
Realtek. And the Realtek updates from Windows Update are w a y, w a y
outdated.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Drivers -- ver. 1.90 -- 31 March 2007

Strange I downloaded and installed R190 and it loaded a driver
older than R160... I had 6.0.1-5374 and 6.0.01-5217 was in
R190. So I reverted to my previous one.

Spirit,
just a guess on my part, but I have seen this before. I think that they
incorporate an earlier driver along with whatever other updates because
of problems with one or more newer drivers. Personally, I always go with
the newest revision number as long as it works on my machine.

Is Realtek offering drivers with Bas and Treble yet? I know there is an EQ,
but I sort of prefer the KISS method. I'd love to dump my Creative card.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Drivers -- ver. 1.90 -- 31 March 2007

I downloaded the ZIP version and ran it, sure enough an older driver was
installed.
So I ran it again and an even older version was installed. After running it
4 times
finally the newest version was installed. My guess is the old drivers were
installed
via Windows Update and the Setup for the new one had to uninstalled each of
the old versions 1 at a time.

But, Microsoft says you need newer version then 6.0.1.6242 from Realtek. The
only one I saw on Realtek site, I just downloaded is 6.0.1.5591, and Update
won't let me have SP1???????

Download the free standing installer:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B0C7136D-5EBB-413B-89C9-CB3D06D12674&displaylang=en

This business about the driver issue with SP1 seems to me to be a bit
overdone. You may just have to reinstall a few drivers.

"These drivers do not follow our guidelines for driver installation and as a
result, some beta participants who were using Windows Vista and updated to
Service Pack 1 reported issues with these devices. Because the issue was
with the way the drivers were installed and not the drivers themselves, the
solution was simply to reinstall the drivers."

http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/archive/2008/02/04/announcing-the-rtm-of-windows-vista-sp1.aspx

I had to reinstall my Synaptics Touchpad drivers.

You could do the same with your Realtek drivers.

Have a go at it.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Drivers -- ver. 1.90 -- 31 March 2007

No, he isn't. He is saying that Windows Update is not offering you the
upgrade but you can download the standalone installer anyway. You most
likely will need to reinstall the RealTek driver because reinstallation is
the driver problem. The drivers work but have a defect that prevents SP1
from automatically reinstalling the drivers after SP1 is installed. If you
know how to reinstall drivers then you can proceed to SP1. However, SP1
goes onto Automatic Updates in a few days anyway so you might as well just
wait.

I have 6.0.1.5591 and Vista is working just fine. I was offered and
downloaded and installed the upgrade with no problems.

That driver must not be why auto updates is not showing me SP1. On my newer
Fujitsu laptop, update shows it's ready to download already.
