Dual Core Processor Compatibility with Vista Home Premium x64

Hello, I've got a dual core processor (Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 (C) DC 1.86
GHz) with Vista Home Premium, 32 bit. I was looking to upgrade to a 64 bit
system (still home premium). I have gotten varied responses from people as
to whether or not my processor can handle 64 bit. The main argument is "it's
a dual core, it can handle a 64 bit system." I don't know if this is true or
not.

Can my processor handle Windows Vista Home Premium x64?

Thank you,

Dan

You are good to go.

It has nothing to do with it being dual core. The Intel Core Duo is a 32bit
cpu. Your cpu is an Intel Core 2 Duo and all the Core 2 cpu's are 64bit so
you are OK. I have run Vista x64 on a Core 2 Duo just fine.

The Core2Duo processors are 64 bit capable. It is dual core, as well as x64.

Core Duo is dual core but NOT 64-bit. Core2Duo (note the difference) IS
64-bit. Your processor IS 64-bit. Whoever told you that all dual-core
chips
are 64-bit was wrong.
