| graphics card I got a new hp computer with windows vista ultimate and in the computer they gave me an integrated NVIDIA Geforce 6150 SE graphics card, but it gave me a graphics rating of 3.3 and gaming graphics rating of 3.0. I am going to be buying a hp 22 inch moniter that includes a DVI cable and i want to be able to use the DVI cable, but the graphics card i have doesn't have a DVI slot. So is it possible for me to buy a new graphics card and use it? If it is, which graphics card for a PCI express slot is good for under $100 and has a DVI input? Would i be able to find any like that with Direct X 10 support? thanks for the help |

| Re: graphics card Yes, there are a lot of video cards out there that offer DVI and DX10 capabilities for under $100. But, you do get what you pay for. You won't get a lot of gaming power, but it will be better than what you have. Also, they do have VGA to DVI adapters available. If you are just looking to connect the two. If you want more power and more capabilities, then go for the upgrade. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.vistarip.com "sld12" <sld12@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D30A2D35-EA7F-4305-AD3A-DF98D763D33C@microsoft.com... >I got a new hp computer with windows vista ultimate and in the computer >they > gave me an integrated NVIDIA Geforce 6150 SE graphics card, but it gave me > a > graphics rating of 3.3 and gaming graphics rating of 3.0. > > I am going to be buying a hp 22 inch moniter that includes a DVI cable and > i > want to be able to use the DVI cable, but the graphics card i have doesn't > have a DVI slot. | Re: graphics card You would have done better to give your HP model, so that people could tell you whether it has an available graphics card slot. (I expect that it does.) Post that, or check at www.hp.com. You can get a good idea what is available by using the advanced search or power search under graphics cards at www.newegg.com, even if you have no intention of buying from them. There are DX10 cards available for less than $50US. I imagine that any of those cards would be an upgrade to onboard graphics. If you want to use the machine for 3D games, you may need to buy better than the low end. The newest cards (nVidia 8800GT and G92 based 8800GTS, ATI Radeon 3870 and 3850) have the best performance for the price, but they are much more expensive than $100. The Radeon 3850 is the cheapest. Return address scrambled. replace nkbob with bobkn.
