Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

Yes I too have the same problem. I have a GeForce 7600 GS card and Windows
Vista Home Premium that has been performing trouble free until yesterday. No
microsoft updates have been applied and I haven't done anything to my system.
I have tried all the 'fixes' (safe mode, etc) to no avail. I get the BSOD and
the only way I can stay in Windows was to delete the nvlddmkm.sys file. Is it
hardware or software?. There seems to be a fix but Microsoft wants you to pay
for it. I guess SP1 might fix it??

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

I just started to have this same issue when I got back on sunday. I installed
8gbs of Corsair XMS2 ram, and teh system started to give me the nvlddmkm.sys
error and then BSOD, etc. I did a memory test and everything checked out
fine. What I have found out is that if you have SLI enabled it will crash the
system. But when I disable it I will still get the error until I turn off
Windows Aero theme.

Then the system seems to run fine. Up until now I have had no issues. I have
even reinstalled the display drivers, moved the nvlddmkm.sys file to
different directories that people have said works, but still nothing.

I even updated my BIOS to version "FF"

Is there a fix for this, or have I just blow $2600 on a junk computer?

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

If it is pc6400 back off the dram speed to 667. This is all to common an
issue with a lot of mobos and pc6400 ram. It has to do with the fourth dimm
slot and not so much the amount of ram.

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

I don't think I can change my ram speedon my mobo. But I will look into the
BIOS and see. If I get the system to be stable with all 8gigs I will comment
back.

I hope so. I don't think you are going to stabilize it at 800.

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

The problem was solved in the interim by disabling the UAC in Vista. A handy
little utility called Vista Manager allows you to do this as well as disable
the message.

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

Okay scratch that one.Worked like a charm for a day and then out of the blue
(an obvious pun) I got the BSOD. Can anyone tell how I get the hotfix in
question from Microsoft (without using their e-mail method, as all you get is
the answer it is not available.)

Thanks

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

I Would agree that it is a windows update, therefore a microsoft, problem. I
bought my gateway computer in 2007 and I have had no problems until now
06/29/2009. The facts:
1. my computer ran perfect for 2 years with all of the nvidia drivers
released.

2. I neither knew about or installed the newest nvidia driver 186. * for
vista 32

3. My windows update is set to automatically install

4. The information seen while in the post portion of booting is not
displaying correctly

Conclusion:
The Nvidia corporation is not to blame for the current problems. Microsoft
is the source of the problem. Whatever hotfix was released near the end of
june caused the issues with the nvlddmkm.sys failure.

I see all of these posts with the BSOD, but no one that appears to have seen
the messed up words in the basic post(bios) boot screens. The update has
destroyed the bios in the MOBO or the EEPROM/gpu in the video card or has
destroyed the ram chips. I can now no longer even install windows: the
installation errs out with a memory problem and freezes. Watch your computer
when it boots, and see if the information normally displayed during post is
unreadable like it is on my computer. My observations lead my to conclude
that microsoft has sent a virus and knows that if this is discovered it will
cost them billions. My computer is completely dead at this point. I will most
likely have to replace MOBO, CPU, and/or RAM becuase of microsofts
negligence. Furthermore they likely know the fix. They have internal KB
documents that their employees have to sign non-disclosure agreements not to
reveal. They are not even allowed to tell you how to fix your problem (when
they are looking at the step by step fix) because then microsoft would be
liable for the damage they knowingly caused. The point is microsoft more than
likely knows the fix but would lose billions in law suits if they told you
the answer (thereby admitting there fault).

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

Nvidia is not responsible. If anybody is it is the manufacturer of the card
containing the Nvidia chip.
The card vendors almost never release a driver update to replace the one
that they shipped with the card to MS and MS Winupdate therefore does not
provide correct updates.
I have seen a long post from an ex MS employee explaining this problem. The
bottom line of his post was "never install a graphic card driver using
WinUpdate" he stated that the same rule is also a good one for tuner card
drivers.
I do not automatically updates but always look at the different updates that
were downloaded and driver updates are always listed as optional.

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

I have the same problem as m0nk3y_sp8nk3r. My notebook worked perfectly
fine till today(26/07/09) and now I can't boot with nvidia driver (i
must use windows default one), and get atrifacts on my bios screen and
logon screen... It really sucks.
I have a GeforceGo 7600.
I guess I just have to try installing XP and pray...

Boot into F8 SafeMode and download and install the latest Nvidia 190.xx
driver from their Website then try and boot in Normal mode again.

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

Installing XP doesn't change anything. I can't install the 190.38
driver, because there is no driver include for my card in it. The
lastest driver I could install was the 179.48. However, the problem show
up again when i reboot (if i install in safe mode). I can't install any
linux system, there is to much artifact. Id don't know why i don't get
any artifact from safe mode or normal mode without driver... Is this a
way for microsoft and laptop constructor to make people changer their
laptop?

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

For laptops only use the driver supplied by the laptop manufacturer. The
drivers available at the NVidia site should not be used for laptops. Laptop
manufacturers tend to tweak the chips on the laptops and have specific
drivers for their stuff.

Re: Vista Update Nvidia Driver nvlddmkm.sys BSOD

I tried to install the manufacturer's driver for my model, however it
does not work either... So i use my laptop without any hardware
acceleration for the graphical part and it is a real pain, because even
if my laptop is 3 year old, it should not break like this out of the
blue. It was expansive, so I wanted it to last more than that...

If anyone can tell me what is the problem, I'll give some information
about the laptop, when it crashed and what i tried to fix it.
It is an Asus A6JM with geforcego 7600
I was running on windows 7 RC since this OS show up with asus vista
driver for my graphic card. My laptop is put on a laptop cooling
device.
When the first crash occured, I was on battery and tried to launch
Galaxy online (a free 2D rts). After this crash I got artifact at logon
and then the BSOD. I could boot in safe mode (without any artifact when
the OS was launched, still some at startup)
I wasn't sure if it was because of 7 but to be safe I format the
laptop, then installed XP sp3.
I still had artifact at startup, but the OS launched proprely and I
could use it. I tried to install the nvidia driver from ASUS (xp version
this time), but I go the BSOD when the driver was loaded. So i assumed
this was an hardware fault. I upgrade my bios with the lastest version
found on the ASUS website, it didn't change anything... So I think the
problem comes from my graphical card. I tried asking ASUS but I couldn't
get any help from them because they told me my warranty was outdated.
So I'm asking everybody, is there anyway to fix it without changing an
hardware part? Should I try flashing the graphic card firmware, if yes,
does anyone have a clean firmware of the Nvidia GeforceGo 7600 512mb
that comes in an ASUS A6JM.

Regards
