| Device Cannot Start (Code 10) The subject line has been my life's misery for the past 3 days trying to get my Lenovo T60 to recognize the Zune Music Player. I have tried - reinstalling the software, uninstalling the USB Hubs, spent hours on the phone being a tennis ball in a grand slam between Zune Helpline, Microsoft Helpline and the Lenovo/ IBM helpline with each passing the buck/ blame to the other. The device and the cable seem to be OK - as they work fine on another Compaq Presario V3000 series laptop. The T60 has 500mA USB power as shown in the Device Manager and thats identical to the ones on the Compaq. But whatever I do, nothing seems to get rid of this problem with the Code 10. The device hardware driver installation fails and the Zune sits with a yellow exclamation mark in the Portable Devices tab of the Device Manager with "Device cannot be started (Code 10)" error. Same problem observed with a Canon S1 IS powershot camera - which also fails to get recognized to download pictures via USB. Any ideas?? |

| Re: Device Cannot Start (Code 10) Try this: Remove and reinstall all USB controllers. To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and click Control Panel, and then click Device Manager. 2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. 3. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time. 4. Restart the computer, and then allow the computer to reinstall the USB devices. 5. Plug in the removable devices. | RE: Device Cannot Start (Code 10) Tibelian, Perhaps you have a USB device driver recognition issue that can be resolved by deleting the INFCACHE.1 file. It can get corrupted with bad data and cause issues like you MAY have. The file is located at: C:\Windows\inf. There, scroll down to the INFCACHE.1 file and right click it and select delete. To do this, you will likely have to give yourself permission to delete it, because of Windows built-in security. Just right click the file, select Properties and then click on the security tab. Let us know whether this procedure does anything. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. | Re: Device Cannot Start (Code 10) Hi Freddy, Thanks for your time. I tried this method after reading up on some bazillion websites before coming here! But no luck. But..... but!! I did a clean re-install of Vista Business using the weekend and the Zune is working now. I guess there was something wrong with the OS install in the first case.
