Chuckles is on a distinguished road
upgrading to smaller solid state disk

I am thinking about going to a solid state disk on my laptop. I probably won't do it until prices come down a bit, but meanwhile I am thinking about the process:

(a) In the past I have done HD upgrades by running a full backup, then changing the HD, installing the OS, then restoring files and system state from the backup. Of course, my current OS is Win2K. What licensing problems will I have in Vista?

(b) If instead I use Ghost or TrueImage, or a freeware imaging utility, isn't it a problem that the new HD is smaller than the old HD? Which software programs will handle that?

Many thanks for your help,

Re: upgrading to smaller solid state disk

Hi Chuckles,

a) No licensing problems, you will simply need to reactivate the
installation.

b) I'm not sure that this is a problem. The only issue I would foresee is if
the amount of physical data stored leaves insufficient free space on the new
drive. Imaging solutions generally only store actual data bits.
