| Sleep problem with Gateway laptop I am sure that this has been posted somewhere in this newsgroup since Vista was released, but after downloading 1000 or so headers, I did not see it. A link to a thread, or an answer will be appreciated. I have a 3 month old Vista Home Premium Gateway laptop with 2 GB RAM. When I put it to sleep in either battery or powered mode, it goes right to sleep, However, when I try to wake it up, it returns to the desktop and immediately goes into a reboot. I have tried both regular and hybrid sleep modes with the same result. Is this a known problem? Does anyone know of a solution? Thanks to any and all in advance. |

| RE: Sleep problem with Gateway laptop blegs38552, Vista seems to have Power problems, but how widespread this issue is is hard to tell. Some people have problems and some don't. There are many variables in trying to diagnose power issues, as you have likely determined from your own attempts to fix your problem. There are power settings in Control Panel that can impact on the behavior you get. There are settings in BIOS that impact on this as well. For example, the BIOS setting of S3 should be enabled for normal sleep mode, but how many people know that? In addition, there are settings in Device Manager under the Properties of many hardware devices that have a Power tab where a user can affect power behavior. The list goes on. It's really hard to be able to tell someone what to do in a situation such as you have. The following is a website that has a scathing report on Vista and its power problems: http://neosmart.net/blog/2006/vistas-hideous-wakeup-support/ Nevertheless, keep in mind that these issues don't affect most people. I, for one, have no problems with Vista power management. My sleep mode works perfectly. You also may consider consulting with the manufacturer of your computer to determine whether they have any helpful information to help take care of your problem. -- freddy "blegs38552" wrote: > I am sure that this has been posted somewhere in this newsgroup since Vista > was released, but after downloading 1000 or so headers, I did not see it. | Re: Sleep problem with Gateway laptop
I am sure that this has been posted somewhere in this newsgroup since Vista was released, but after downloading 1000 or so headers, I did not see it. A link to a thread, or an answer will be appreciated. I have a 3 month old Vista Home Premium Gateway laptop with 2 GB RAM. I have tried both regular and hybrid sleep modes with the same result. Is this a known problem? Does anyone know of a solution? Thanks to any and all in advance.
I had problems with Vista sleep functions on my desktop HP Pavilion. I had tried all sorts of combinations of sleep/power settings with no luck. Sleep had been working until about three weeks after I bought the machine. I narrowed the problem to actions I had taken on a specific date, where I had tried to install an old scanner which did not install properly. I uninstalled everything, but there was an artifact left over in the msconfig Startup Items list. Although there was no apparent direct connection between the artifact and sleep, sleep began working after I removed the artifact from msconfig. So, perhaps a place for you to start is to ask whether sleep has *ever* worked on your laptop? You can learn about your sleep history in Event Viewer/Windows Logs/System. Within this display, you can search for events with the Find command, and look for events that have the words Power or Sleep. This may help you pin down when or if your system has had events associated with sleep. I am sorry that this description is a little vague, but that is all I can tell you based on my experience. Hope it helps! |
