Audio Output Device

I recently downloaded and installed all of the recommended Vista updates and
since that time my computer (emachine) has not been able to locate my audio
output device. I attempted locate the driver(s) for my device but it appears
that it is already installed properly. Any ideas?

RE: Audio Output Device

You can not delete updates, if you think they are the cause of the problem,
use the Restore feature to restore to a restore point before the update, you
can re-install updates manually again if required.

RE: Audio Output Device

mcpowder,

Another thing to try is to, in Device Manager, right click you sound device
and select uninstall. The idea is to have Windows reinstall the device when
it reboots and that fact sometimes corrects problems, but sometimes not.
This does no harm to try and may do good.

RE: Audio Output Device

Thanks for your reply. Oddly, I am encountering an error when I attempt to
Restore. Now I am really dumbfounded. I also attempted to uninstall the audio
driver. Upon rebooting the computer, the driver was again installed properly,
but the computer still failed to notice the audio ouput device...?? Any other
suggestions?

RE: Audio Output Device

mcpowder,

Vista records error conditions. Take a look at the report: Start > All
Programs > Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions. Peruse the report
for errors contained therein and focus on any recommended action to take to
resolve the condition. Let us know what you find.

RE: Audio Output Device

Robert,

Have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers for your sound card?
To do that, you need to know the name of your sound device. In Device
Manager, unfold Sound, video and game controllers and note the name of the
sound device, if there is one. It may display some sort of error condition,
such as a yellow bang (!), or show the words Unknown Device, or some other
indication of a problem. I have no way of knowing what you may find or what
you have installed.

Also, downloading and installing all the updates available at the Microsoft
website could manage to install a driver for you. If you have continued
problems with this sound issue, post back with more information about exactly
what condition you have.

This is a copy of the error when attempting to use the "Restore" concept:

Description
System Restore Failure

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: SystemRestore

Result: 3
Details: 0x80070005

RE: Audio Output Device

mcpowder,

The report didn't include a recommendation for addressing the problem? If
not, try using google to search on the error 0x80070005. Into to google
search bar, enter: error 0x80070005 and click on the magnifying glass.
Review the hits you get.
