| Ready Boost and Virtual Memory I have just purchased a 4GB SD card. I choose 'use this device to speed up the system using ready boost'. I allocated 3,810MB of the device as was recommended by windows. I then checked the virtual memory of my system as it only says I have 2GB. I've got 1024MB of RAM, and 1300MB of my Hard drive is allocated to windows. Is ready boost used as virtual memory? If it is why isn't it showing up as part of my virtual memory. I clicked use this device to under the ready boost tab of the properties of the device. So I don't actually know if ready boost is working or not. |

It operates as an 'invisible' buffer between RAM and the hard disk swap file. It speeds up the handling of page faults (where the required block of memory isn't currently in RAM). So don't worry about it not appearing - it'll be working just fine. Steve |

It's discussed nicely in this recent article in TechNet: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/technetmag/issues/2007/03/VistaKernel/ -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
