First, yeah I read the other posts. And the other posts on the other
websites. And Microsoft. I asked them a lot. I'm getting no where in
my search here.

(Wired 360 Controller;2.66ghzQuadcore-4gbram-vistaUltimatex64-GeForce
8800GTS)

I'm playing my game happily and my computer crashes. No big deal. I
have a 8800gts and its a heat monster which tends to make it break
arbitrarily. Problem is when I turn my computer back on.. XBOX360
CONTROLLER has disappeared from game controllers in control panel and
from the options in my older games dropdown menus.

So I get online. Download Xbox Accessories 1.1 Download Drivers for
controller. Install everything.. and it still doesn't appear in control
panel or my OLD games but it has resumed working in new games
(NeedfS:Shift).

I only bought the stupid thing so I could play ancient games with an
authentic feel, I could care less about ones with good keyboard/mouse
support so either someone helps me out or I got shafted on $40.

First thing: What official nVidia driver version are you using? You
may need to install the official drivers from www.nvidia.com.

Also, since you believe that your video card is causing the heat
problem (which is wrong since the "games" are using the 8800 processor
and it is normal,) you should consider improving the cooling of your
PC by adding fans.

I've got about 14 fans including my case actually. My GPU runs at 58
idle and like 70-80 under high load. Often my screen'll black out and
then freeze and I attributed it to the only thing that looked wrong.
