Well lookie here, looks like Andy can't get a game running. The SHAME!

OK, my Dell Dimension E521 running Vista Business SP1 does NOT like Spore
Creature Creator. (single core, 1 gig ram, integrated HD audio chip
(SigmaTel), GeForce 7300 LE PCIe card)

I installed the Trail version yesterday and no problems. I used the EA
Downloader to download the full version and quickly found out that you had
to uninstall the trial to get the full version to install correctly.

After installing the full version, I started the game and the game crashes
shortly after the EA Logo appears on screen.

I went through my registry and striped out all the Spore entries and
reinstalled, but I am getting the same crash on start-up.

Any ideas? I am willing to wager it's just a crash and will probably run OK
at home, and so far my online searches haven't come up with any discussion
threads about it. I find it odd because the Trial version worked OK
yesterday. Maybe I'll reboot a couple more times.

WOW FIXED! That was fast. I unloaded the EA Downloader, and it works!

I thought to myself, OK what have I installed since I ran the Trial...
Well EA Downloader was the only thing I had installed recently.
Disabled, Ran SCC (Spore Creature Creator) from the Games Explorer, and
it worked.

Wow, talk about bad testing.

Crap, problem is back, it's not EA Downloader (which loads when you load
the game).

I killed all my background applications and it still crashes. My Quad Core
at home doesn't exhibit any problems. No idea why, probably just have to
wait till more people have this problem and a solution is addressed. This
is why I sometimes hate PC gaming.

Spore Creature Creator is really cool, but **** if their website doesn't
suck balls. You can share your creations online, but you can't access those
creations on other computers? I upload a creature, then I login at home and
you'd think I could see that creature, but nope.

No idea what's wrong with that, seems a little short-sighted.

im running it on XP and have had exactly the same problem. the trial was
fine but since i paid good money for the full version i get nothing and it is
annoying the hell out if me. i cant find any way of fixing it and scouring
the internet is getting me nowhere

I have the exact same **** problem...trial ran fine...tried spore cc..thought
it was fun..gf loved it..then bought the full version and crash at EA
screen...wtf ? i have tried everything..run as admin,run in window,update
direct x,run as xp prog, update GFX card drivers...no luck what so ever....i
blame myself really...i should have known when it´s fu**ing EA...everytime i
buy one of their games it´s the same **** story...problems left and right...
i was really looking forward to this... *sigh*

*UPDATE*

i found out the problem and it´s running fine now...it WAS the EA downloader
that crashed SPORE...you have to uninstall EA downloader ad bam..it
works....only EA can fu*k something like that up....

well, I unistalled the EA manager or w/e, and it runs perfectly fine..just
go to remove programs in your control panel...Worked fine for me.

The best fix involves replacing a .dll. Details are on the Spore FAQ at:

(Update: Found out you can browse to your creature and download it to
the game, creature data files are uber small.)

Dude, it was $10. I'm looking for answers, not people eating cheese.

it's a recent release, give em a week to come up with something. Are you
using the digital distribution version or the CD version? What kind of
computer are you running it on (hardware specs).

Name some apps running on your system like anti-virus, or whatever runs
in the background.

Only gonna find answers if we start asking questions.

My friend at EA said something like that, he said you can get it working
correctly with a couple adjustments. If he gets the OK from his boss he
sail he'll email me the fix.

Apparently if you uninstall EA Downloader eventually anything you bought
online will stop working. It's a DRM thing.

And there's the fix. Odd that the EA Downloader can't push it's own
updates. EA's always had a "Left Hand doesn't know what Right Hand is
doing" mentality.
