My, you're sensitive! "Torture", "ruthless people", "insulted", "spat at"!
And nobody was interrogating you - perhaps you don't know what that actually
means. Any more than I know what "peer torture" is (if it's a different
thing from "pure torture"...).

The "ur" comment was all in a paragraph starting "Besides". Andy's main
point, and mine, was in his previous paragraph commenting on your advice to
"take the risk" by reducing system security and potentially causing other
problems just to get a game to work, and he recommended the OP seek other
solutions from Valve support.

If you DO ever return to Deserted Hell, please don't keep snipping out a
thread's history from your posts (like you just did again despite being
asked not to); it helps keep continuity. Meanwhile, good luck with the
comfort you obtain from your other forums.

I've always considered myself a bit of a masochist.

I don't know what forum you're using, but you should tell the admin that
your replies aren't appearing under the correct header.

Spelling:
It should be I'm, not "i'm". "pure", not "peer". "all" should be
capitalized. Also, it's not necessary to use 3 periods, usually 1 will
suffice.

God, I could go on forever.

Other forums aren't Usenet (even if it is a Microsoft offshoot service),
we hold people to a higher standard here. How you present your arguement
goes a long way to establishing credibility, If you take the time to
post your thoughts clearly and concisely, people will take you more
seriously. Well, more people will take you more seriously.

Also, I am not affiliated with vistax64.com, this is a USENET newsgroup
that vistax64.com COPIES into a "forum". Any newsreader can access this
group. Here are some links, educate yourself, there is life on this net
outside of the Interweb. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interweb)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_client

Welcome to Internet Life OUTSIDE a web browser.

-Andy.

P.s.- You're so easy. Take a breath, don't let every little thing get to
you or you are gonna croak before you hit 16. Take a typing course or
play more MMOs. I learned to touch type playing EverQuest. Shift key is
a great thing, and you don't have to press Enter except at the end of a
paragraph or thought.

Wow, much more eloquent than anything I could of ever come up with.

I usually trim out text from replies, in a Usenet Newsgroup you are
advised to trim your quote, assuming you are actually responding to the
correct thread or post in the thread.

Problem is a lot of "Vista Forums" copy groups into forums and everyone
thinks they are local forums and not GLOBAL beyond the borders of that
forum.

http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html
Great article on quoting in Usenet posts. I think there should be some
requirement in forums to state that the posts that go into this group go
beyond their boundries.

http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Usenet/Etiquette/
I got the above link from this link, talks about Netiquette and why
posting at the END of a reply is better than posting your response at the
top. (Thank you for that, Microsoft. Idiots.)

The guy was a douche anyways. (seeing if he's still around, hehe)

Back on topic, and for the record, my 3 Vista Machines run Half-Life
games without crashing, no workarounds necessary. Drivers, BIOS Updates,
and TLC are better suggestions than "Make a huge hole in your network
security, and it'll never crash."

As you've tried everything said here - what did Valva support have to say?

i just figured out how to fix this problem. all you have to do is go
into your C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\username and cut and paste
any game that runs off of hl2.exe and move it into C:\Program
Files\Steam\steamapps\common and then try to run the game , you will get
a black screen but just wait it out and the game will end up loading and
recreate the files into your steamapps folder and from there on your
game will work perfect dont know why it works but it does have fun

In the past I have had issues with Half Life 2 games. Not sure it was
totally Vista's fault. For instance games like TF2 would just randomly
freeze the entire system. Could only reset to get out of it.

It seems like some Source games just have issues. Best suggestion I can
give is to go to the forums at Steampowered.com and post your question
there. Hopefully someone can give you some suggestions.

Might also see if their tech support can help. They may already have the
solution buried somewhere on their site, might just try looking around.

I encountered this very same issue. Have you right clicked the shortcut
within steam and played with compatibility? Of course you are running it as
an administrator? When does the error pop up? During loading, after loading,
at the menu, etc.

I ended up re-creating this problem and got around it by clicking the 'wait
