adding a new hard drive

I accedentally got a new 2.5in sata 32 gb solid state hard drive that wont work in my laptop (needed a ide hard drive which i got and installed).
I want to put this in my desktop as an extra drive. im not super worried about fitting the 2.5 in drive in my desktop, i made a small plastic adapter so it will mount, but i want to transfer vista to the solid state drive instead of my old drive.

what is involved in a transfer such as this. can i install windows on the new hard drive and keep my other programs on my old drive?

my current drive is 300gb and is pretty full of crap that ill eventually need to sort through and get rid of, but right now i just want to run windows of the solid state drive and keep everything but vista on the other drive

is this gonna be a major headache?

thanks for the help
