Vista hangs all the time :(

Dear all,

I am having some major hanging issues with Vista (Ultimate 32bit). I believe that I can divide the issues into two: non game related and game related.

Non-game related hanging issues usually happens between the BIOS loading to within the first few minutes of successfully booting up Vista. As per the previous sentence, my computer can hang right after the BIOS screen (total blank screen); right after load select screen (F8) screen where the loading windows screen can be seen as a faint ghost as the computer locks right as Vista loading takes place; as well as during the loading screen (the moving bar locks).

Post-loading, the non-game hanging issues can happen almost immediately (just the backdrop and the mouse cursor with the mouse circle frozen); as the background programs are loading; and sometimes even the mere act of clicking can hang the computer.

Usually I have to reboot my computer several times (up to ten times sometimes!) just to reach to the point where Vista somehow ‘stabilizes’ itself (i.e. no post-loading crashes for a few minutes). I have also experienced the hanging during installation of SP1; and the problem has still not gone away since the SP1 update.

Game-related seems to only occur with specific games, in this case I have gotten hangs (the screen goes black with/ without music playing in the background) with games such as NeverWinterNights 2 and Nine Dragons. Oddly enough I never experience hangs with such games as Evil Genius or Splinter Cell: Double Agent. The hangings can occur almost immediately within the game starting to half an hour of the game being executed.

So far, I have tried to use various Nvidia drivers from the latest beta drivers to some of the drivers from last year, using the uninstall/safemode/drivercleaner/newinstall route. I also reformatted my primary hard disk just a month or so ago. Minimal programs pre-load on start up, namely my firewall/antivirus/msnmessenger/adobe.

During the hangings, let it be noted that NO blue screens of death was every observed. The screen just either locked up or went blank.

I am at total loss here. Just in the past two days alone I have had to force reboot my computer at least 50 times. Can somebody please help me with my problem, it would be very much appreciated.

You may need a new computer, Vista requires some kinda power! sorry
