1 Gbps LAN connection capped at 54Mbps?

Hello all,

I've come across a curious issue. My LAN connection is 1Gbps, but the transferrate maxes out at 54Mbps.

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium on a laptop. The laptop of course also has a wireless NIC which has a maximum speed of 54Mbps. I doubt this is a coincidence.

I use both connections at the same time. The wireless network I use to connect to the internet, and the wired network is private.


I'm just wondering if anyone of you can help me fix this. Or even if anyone else has encountered the same problem. Most new laptops have both a 1Gbps NIC and a 54Mbps wireless NIC, but I doubt many people actually use both.


I'd be grateful for any helpful tips on this.
