Hey ppl! OK, I would really appreciate if someone could help me out! My boyfriend just got his Lenovo 3000 N200 model 0769 laptop with the Telus high speed internet contract deal. He gave it to me because he already has a computer. Anyway, it came with Vista on it and I'd prefer XP. I've been told Vista is still buggy and I know my way around XP better too. Plus my bf thinks the laptop would run quicker if I had XP on it. SO, I called the Lenovo tech support and asked the guy how to go about doing this. My bf had previously tried to reformat but he couldn't figure out how to do it cause some error message came up when he put the XP disk in (He's good with computers, but this was his first laptop). The tech support guy told me the first step is to make recovery disks for Vista in case something goes wrong. So I was wondering if anyone could walk me through how to do that, or if anyone knows a good site that has a guide for it or something? The tech support guy also told me the next step would be to use Killdisk (??) to remove Vista. Is killdisk the best application of its kind to do the job? Or are there easier/better programs to do this with? If anyone could help me out I'd REALLY appreciate it

Re: taking vista off & putting XP on my laptop - recovery disk help? contrary to popular belief, it IS possible to take vista of a notebook and put xp on, its tricky though... Heres how you do it: Get your hands on a bootable win98 cd (win98SE works like a charm). For some reason the old OS can pick up the vista partition and wipe it. You dont need to install win98, just use it to format your drive, once formatted, pop in your xp disc and continue as you would normally. Done. hope this helps

Hi Ron, Yes its possible, I did it with my acer travelmate 7720G just this weekend, what ive also found is the sata drives aren't picked up by an xp boot disc, so i fixed that by doing a bios update. That solved all my problems. Im running xp now and everything runs much better!!! Like soldier of fortune 3 had a serious lag which led to a crash a few seconds later, now it runs fine. Even my battery life has DOUBLED!!! Moral of the story, take vista off asap, it sucks... ass TIA, Swifty

Re: taking vista off & putting XP on my laptop - recovery disk help? Got any proof of this? An article maybe? would love to read about it.... I don't think MS can force you to use their new OS on YOUR personal notebook. so how can it be illegal?
