I orderend my Q1 yesterday. I will be sitting on pins and needles until it arrives. I read as much as I could stand without getting more confused than I already was as to which one to purchase. My two main requirements were:
1] Had to run the Windows Tablet PC Operating System.
2] Had to have either a pcmcia slot or a compact flash slot, because I have wireless anywhere with Tmobile amd unless in my confusion I missed one, this was the only machine that had the CF slot and PC Tablet.
My purse is loaded every day with gadgets that I think I must carry whether I will actually use them or not .. I have two sim cards. One has telephone and internet access on it .. the other has internet only. I keep the one with both in my Nokia 7370 and the other I keep in my MPx300 phone/everything by Motorola. When I need a bigger screen than I have on the Motorola, I take the sim out and put it in my Audiovox CF card and use that in my Fujitsu P1510D laptop.
Hopefully ... When the Q1 gets here I will then be able to leave behind my laptop, put the sim internet card in the audiovox and use it on the Q1 for internet .. I will then sell my MPx300 [and eventually the laptop.] With the Audiovox CF card modem, I can also make calls by plugging in a headset into the modem itself. [even though the audiovox website said it is NOT a voice modem ... IT FOR SURE IS because I have made many phone calls from my laptop.
I read that one of the UMPCs could also function like a PDA .. It could turn on as a PDA without having to start windows. If that is for certain .. and maybe even if not .. the Q1 will replace my Palm Lifedrive. I use that for fast access to phone numbers, but I could copy them all to my phone I guess ... or keep them on the Q1 and leave the Q1 in standby mode for fast access.
I also use my PDA and the MPx300 for playing some simple games .. GREAT TIME KILLERS, those little games are. But with the Q1, it is portable enough to keep handy for the time killer games as well.
I also have a camera that I don't always carry because I have a camera on my phone and also a SD card camera that works either in my Palm or my MPx300 .. So basically what I am saying is that this Samsung will HOPEFULLY replace the MPx300 - the laptop and the PDA .. YES ??? NO ??? And besides the fact it has Tablet PC .. The handwriting recognition software reads my scrawl so well that a keyboard won't really be necessary !!! I previously owned the Sony U50 and it had Tablet PC on it .. I never carried the folding keyboard. In a pinch I could always use the on screen keyboard ...
Ordered my Q1 from Dynamism .. They have them READY TO SHIP .. Yippee .. with all my gadgets I am like a kid [a 50-something year old kid] at Christmas. NOT ONLY does the Q1 look and sound like the PERFECT addition to my gadget collection .. it matches my Sony PSP !!! I am almost in heaven !!!
