A google search with the term UMPC returns over 7.67 million webpages representing a 7 fold increase over a search for Intel Apples. Both stories were worthy of the 2006 tech year but the interest in the Origami PCs far exceeded interest in Apple using an Intel. Why do you think this is true? People are ready for mobile systems. They do not want to be locked down to a desktop PC. Instead, they want to take their information with them.
In fact, the UMPC is so popular that the 2006 in review story from What PC? lists the UMPC systems in the headline.
