Four UMPC and Tablet PC machines are being used during the day and at night, keeping me from being able to update with any news. Yep, the Samsung Q1, ASUS R2H, and TabletKiosk eo-V7110 are being used almost 24 hours a day. In fact, we were up until 3 AM updating
Neek Talk and getting some of their podcasts together. They have some great insights into their experience.
Anyway, I finally grabbed the Tablet PC with EVDO a few minutes ago so that I could stop broadcasting
the live webcam and shift to some important thoughts about Bill Gates keynote and the Microsoft Origami booth. I wanted to post this Sunday night. Sorry, for the delay but this is great news.
Bill Gates keynote was a subdued presentation. Mr. Gates began by announcing he will be back next year but then was not sure whether he would return, unless CES wanted him to speak about infectious diseases. But we should not be sad. The industry is simply moving into a new era.
Now, lets move to the most important concept realized from the keynote. Mr. Gates did not use the phrase "ultra-mobile pc" to describe the new Medion PC. Instead the phrase was a simple "mobile pc." Are we witnessing a shift? Well, yes. The mobile PCs melt into the CES landscape - just as if they had been there for years. There is a nice Zune area, a nice Media Center area, an xbox area, and even a so-so Vista area - the "Origami" area had there own area, too, with a few mobile PCs. So Microsoft is doing their best to show off their depth of products and the Mobile PC is definitely part of the mainstream. The Tablet PC and UMPC have arrived. In fact, when I entered the Microsoft booth - there were several people willing to show off the beautifully designed UMPCs. Yes, sir. The Mobile PC is shifting to the mainstream.
The CES 2007 experience has been well worth the time. The Sands Convention Center has some great presenters. And - at least TabletKiosk, is making headway in marketing their "mobile PCs." OQO Model 2 looks fabulous. No. No. That is not kind enough. The OQO is BEAUTIFUL. There are some cool new Tablet PCs from TabletKiosk, HP, and Toshiba. So - the manufacturers are doing their best. Maybe I should just shout out a huge praise for the manufacturers. Good job!
The Tablet PC and UMPC gathering is later today. Manufacturers, retailers, consumers, and members of the press will be together in one area. I'll continue to broadcast live on the webcam. Just tune into
Stickam.com/profile/tabletpcguy so that you can join us as we walk around the tradeshow. In case you missed yesterday, Loren has
some important links from the webcam and some captured screenshots.
