I've been tempted to purchase the Linux-based ASUS Eee. Yet, my hesitation comes on many levels. The first is the keyboard. The second is this idea that maybe the machine is not designed for someone like me. I am looking for a real computer to keep my data with me - and not a device (UMD versus UMPC). My data is now over 30GB in size. Bits and pieces are kept on a flash drive - the important documents - but the My Documents folder is over 30 GB. Finally, since my data is from Windows-based applications then those applications need to be on the system.
Would I be able to write a fair and honest review of the Eee? Probably not. With the above said - my disappointment would come quickly as the system does not meet my expectations. After all, what would I use the ASUS Eee for if it did not work with my data?
What if ASUS released a 10-inch Eee and supported Windows Vista? Storage space is still a concern. Why can a Zune have 80GB and not the ASUS Eee? We need some real innovation in this ecosystem and not tiresome older hardware repackaged.
How about you? Would you buy the 10-inch ASUS Eee, the Linux-based or Windows-based Eee? Does the low cost appeal to you?
