Today has been a full day with the TabletKiosk UMPC.
Password
The NeekTalk team installed MS Vista onto the TabletKiosk v7110 UMPC. Unfortunately, they did not write down the password and forgot the phrase. The password was removed by booting the system with a Linux CD and clearing the password. After removing the password from the administrator account, a new user account was created.
Network Setup
While the UMPC saw the network, it would not connect. After entering the security key, the message would return that the network was taking too long to respond. The challenge was the channel ID for the security key. The security key was entered correctly, but the channel ID was defaulting to 1. After making this change, the UMPC connected to the home network.
Vista Updates
The Vista updates completed once the UMPC connection was established.
External Monitor
The next step in working with the UMPC was hooking up an external monitor. There are many choices for converting USB to VGA, and I opted to use the Iogear's USB 2.0 External Video Card (EVC). The installation required the software drivers to be installed prior to the EVC hooked up to the USB. Once hooked up, the display showed on the 37-inch TV in my living room.
Live Writer
Live Writer is my favorite blogging software. The latest beta 3 version installed easily, as well as Live Messenger. Unfortunately, the Ink Blog plugin refuses to cooperate and crashes each time started.
And now, the UMPC is ready for constant use. Yes, the UMPC traveled with me around the home - in the kitchen - in the bedroom - and in the living room.
