Lists are popular on the Internet because they quickly convey ideas. Rather than reading lengthy text, a visitor is able to scan and decide for themselves if they agree. Instead of creating a post like 8 Reasons to Check Out a Tablet PC (which is a good read), I decided to create a post asking readers to add to the list - and thereby creating a Monster List of Reasons for Using a UMPC.
I'll start the list off (in no particular order) with a few thoughts and please join in with your own reasons.
1. Applications are compatible with your desktop. Instead of having to worry about exporting and importing data, the Mobilteer is able to natively use applications.
2. Ink-enabled applications. Just like the big brother Tablet PC, ink applications provide Mobilteers with the ability to easily expand on their ideas. For example, Loren thinks in diagrams. Hmm. Maybe we should include a link to Loren's Google Search Tip or the improved Silverlight version because this adds to Google searching by adding the missing ink-portion.
3. Take your data with you. One of the most important aspects of mobility is having your data with you when you need it. The UMPC provides the possibility for the Mobilteer to quickly access their data (e.g., enter a new contact, scribble down a note).
4. Blogging Tool extraordinare. Everything you need for blogging is possible with the UMPC: cameras, Internet connectivity, etc.
5. Classroom lesson planning. Blocking out the purpose and objective of a lesson is easier on a computer. Yet, keeping records digitally provides a structure. In fact, we could add a teacher's reflection notes are better on a UMPC than paper.
6. e-Book Reading. This is the ultimate experience for me. I am required to read books in the Adobe PDF format. This is best done on the UMPC.
