I have Toshiba satellite A215-S7444 notepad. There was a problem with my Chicony USB 2.0 Webcam web cam that it use to throw an error "Graph render fail" and it use to start working smtime after restarting the system. To correct this issue i have updated my device driver by following the below process:

1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Click Control Panel, System and Maintenance and then Device Manager.
3. Right-click on Chicony USB 2.0 Camera and select Update Driver Software. A yellow exclamation point indicates that the camera is recognized by Windows but is not working properly, probably because of problem with the device driver
4. Select Browse my computer for the driver software.
5. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
6. Select USB Video Device from the list, and click Next.
7. If the message “Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device” appears, click Close.
8. Restart Windows.

But after updating the installation of driver software it started giving another error "webcam driver open fail. please restart camera or system". I tried restarting my system but dint work out. After that i tried updating system with following process:

"There might be some programs that is already attached with the device. To deactivate them, run msconfig by going to accessories and then run. Then under the tab labeled "Services" check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft services" and then click on disable all. Next, under the tab that says "Systems" click on disable all and press ok. You should then be asked to restart so press ok and once the computer is back up try with your messenger software and it should work. "

But even after doing this i am finding the same Error "webcam driver open fail. please restart camera or system".

Can any one help me in resolving this problem.

I ran into the same problem on this same type of laptop.

Open the device manager, delete the Chicony USB 2.0 Camera, then restart your system.

This worked for me.

I had the same problem with my Toshiba A215. I kept uninstalling and then re-installing the Toshiba webcam program but that did not work. While their program was installed I was unable to use my webcam on Yahoo or Stickam.

My "Imaging" option was also not listed under my devices like it had been before the problem started.

I uninstalled the webcam program again and restarted my computer. I looked in my device list and the driver showed up again!

Though now I don't have a program to use my webcam if I'm not on Yahoo or Stickam, at least it works on something and I'll see what my other options are from here.

I have the same problem with my Satellite L355-S7812. I keep getting the message: webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or system. I tried downloading a new driver, deleting it as was suggested but nothing works. Anyone got any news about this?

This morning after the system update restart my webcam driver went caboom and the dreaded "restart the webcam or ur computer" popup bacame permanent. I googled for answers and as soon as I did't find any but complaints I went to the setup (recovery and aplications') CD's of my Satellite A215. There, you will find an option to recover drivers... I just clicked on the Webcam driver program, waited for the setup dialog to show its options, hit repair... and voila... My cam is up and running... Hope helps... it did form me
